The University at Buffalo women’s basketball team is moving on to the WNIT finals after a 74-69 win Wednesday night over Cleveland State.

Chellia Watson led the way with 21 points for the Bulls, who trailed by 2 heading into the final quarter but outscored the Vikings by 7.

"We knew that we had to come out in the second half, throw the first punch and keep it rolling," said Watson.

Western New York's own Noelani Cornfield played shutdown defense into the second half but found herself in foul trouble through three quarters.

"I know what  I can do for my team. And so, knowing where I was with the fouls and where I needed to be, it's just maturity. I mean, I've been in the game for a minute now, so I know when and when and not to be smart," she said after the game.

Terah Harness sparked the Bulls to salt the game away and finished with 8 points off the bench.

"Her work is showing now, and I love that for her," Cornfield noted. "When the crowd just erupts after a dagger like that. It's going to do everything, whether for us, for the coaches, for probably the other team, too. Like they might come out devastated. It's just what we do. Everybody steps up when they need to."

A long season wraps up with one last game against Troy on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Alumni Arena on campus. The game will be televised on CBS Sports.

After the program’s record-tying 29th win of the season, coach Becky Burke said the work is paying off.

"You have to welcome a challenge, and you got to walk through a lot of fire throughout the season to get to where you want to go," Burke said. "Since June we have been molding them and pushing them and challenging them so that they can feel the feeling they just felt out there, and so that they can feel the feeling that hopefully they will have on Saturday."
