The city of Rochester is teaming up with the Rochester Area Community Foundation and ESL Federal Credit Union to help fund the Neighbors in Action program launched in September. They will provide $100,000 in financial support.
Grants up to $10,000 each for local residents are available.
“Rochester Area Community Foundation will hold, manage and disburse the grants, and the city of Rochester has created four new positions in our neighborhood service centers to help coordinate near and build capacity in our neighborhoods," Mayor Malik Evans said.
"We are so excited to translate that into something that you can touch, see, feel and be a part of," Rochester Area Community Foundation President Simeon Banister said. "And we encourage every citizen in the city of Rochester to make your voice heard, to let us know what's important to you and to help us advance the public good.”
The initiative is inspired by the Neighbors Building Neighborhoods program from 1996, which was recognized nationally as a model for civic partnerships.
Organizers say the grants will hopefully allow residents to come together to take action toward strengthing and improving their neighborhoods.
Applications must be submitted by Feb. 28 and recipients will be made public March 31. Click here to learn more.
