On Thursday, volunteers headed out into the community for the United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes 31st Day of Caring.

The group's annual event is typically the largest community-wide volunteer event in the region.

More than 64,000 volunteers representing more than 200 workplaces and organizations worked to complete 425 projects for 180 nonprofit agencies across Monroe, Livingston, Genesee, Ontario, Wayne and Wyoming counties.

"Rain or shine, we are out there," said Jamie Saunders, president and CEO of the United Way of Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes. "We are helping organizations. It's a lot of spring cleanup, it's a lot of building, it's a lot of cleaning, it's a lot of getting ready and really showing up to really support our organizations."

The United Way also put together and donated 600 kits with hygiene, home and mom and baby supplies to 13 local nonprofits throughout the day.
