A major upgrade is coming to electrical power in the town of Henrietta.
A $4.7 million state grant will be used to upgrade an electrical substation in the town.
Officials say this increase in power is needed to meet Monroe County's designation as a regional tech hub.
County Executive Adam Bello says the town has more than 600 acres of land available for commercial and residential development.
"The possibilities that we can see out here in Henrietta really are endless," Bello said. "Whether it's advanced manufacturing and research development companies or senior family and affordable housing opportunities, all of which could be realized with the increase in power capacity that results in this project."
"We've had a number of projects that have had to be turned away because they can't get power today," Henrietta Town Supervisor Steve Schultz said. "So this is a huge step in that direction. We are pursuing multiple billion dollar investment in this area."
Rochester Gas & Electric says it will begin work this year in order to get those projects moving.
Some of those businesses include a solar panel manufacturer, research and development for beverage production and a semiconductor supply chain company.
