FAIRPORT, N.Y. — A Rochester band whose catalog of music spans over four decades is doing something tonight that it hasn’t done in quite some time.
It’s been 15 years since The Chesterfield Kings played a show in their hometown of Rochester. That ends Saturday night.
“Fun, fun. It’s gonna be fun,” said bassist Jeff Okolwicz of what fans can expect at the show. “The world needs fun. Rock and roll.”
Garage rock, more specifically, inspired by the '60s. The show is also an album release party for the band’s new record, We’re Still All the Same.
“When we did this album, we were really careful to stick to our roots,” said lead vocalist and guitarist Andy Babiuk. “People know the Chesterfield Kings for a certain genre, garage, basically borrowing all the things we like from the '60s and '50s and basically creating our own sound.”
The show at Iron Smoke Distillery in Fairport on Saturday night will include new songs, as well as classics from the band, who released their first single in 1979. Band members say they have released so many albums, it would be nearly impossible to play a song live from each one.
“I think playing for a hometown crowd, it’s gonna be a lot of fun,” said guitarist and keyboard player John Cammarosano. “We’ll really enjoy it.”
A homecoming for garage rock warriors — back after a 15-year hiatus.
