The city of Geneva has its new police chief.
Lieut. Ronald Eveland has been promoted to the city's chief of police, city staff announced Monday.
The city says a search effort for a new chief resulted in the candidates, and Eveland was selected after officials reviewed public interviews and feedback surveys, met with community members and convened a team of community stakeholders.
Officials say Eveland will accept his appointment on June 17, at which point Interim Chief Michael Passalacqua will step down.
“I am both excited and honored to have been selected for this position," Eveland said in a statement. "This has been a dream of mine for a long time and I have worked hard to get to where I am. I look forward to this challenge and promise to lead the department with professionalism and dedication to provide the best quality of police services to our wonderful community. I want to thank the men and women of the Geneva Police Department for their support during this process, City administration and staff, and most importantly the community for being involved with the search process.”
According to city officials, Eveland is a native of Geneca and served in the U.S. Air Force for six years, before leaving the service with an honorable discharge as a staff sergeant.
