Construction has started on the Genesee Brew House keg tree.

It’s the ninth year the tree has stood outside the Brew House.

More than 500 kegs are used to build the tree. This year’s is the tallest yet, standing at just over 30 feet. Builders wrap 24,000 lights around the kegs.

This Friday, the Brew House kicks off the holiday season with a tree-lighting event.

Families can enjoy music, food trucks and the keg tree ale.

Just like Genesee Beer, the keg tree has become a staple in the Rochester community.

“Anybody that grows up in this area knows Cream Ale, they know Genny Lite," Genesee Brew House associate brand manager John Lyons said. "It’s so exciting to be able to be a part of this. It’s like a dream come true. I’ve always wanted to be able to give back to the community and this is just a small part of being able to do that.”

The theme for this year’s tree lighting is "Home for the Holidays."

It runs from 5 to 9 p.m. this Friday, with the lighting happening at 6:30 p.m.
