Frontier Airlines will suspend operations at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport on May 9, corresponding with the end of the current winter/spring travel season. The Monroe County Department of Aviation made the announcement Saturday.
The airline has been flying between Rochester and Orlando, F.L. year round, between Rochester and Tampa, F.L. during the winter months, and between Rochester and Denver, C.O. during the spring and summer months since 2021.
Officials say nonstop service will continue to Orlando and Tampa on other airlines.
“We’re sorry to hear of Frontier Airlines’ suspension of service out of the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport. The Airport maintained a good relationship with Frontier over the last two years, but this is a competitive business and unfortunately Frontier made a decision impacting service at ROC,” Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport Director Andy Moore said in a statement. “The ROC team will continue to work with current and prospective airlines to bring new service, new routes and more options for Rochester passengers.”
The county says while the airline has decided to end operations out of Rochester, Frontier is hopeful to return to the city in the future.
