PERINTON, N.Y. — Lollypop Farm is hoping to find homes for several dogs that have spent months at the shelter as the non-profit hosts its Clear the Kennels event on Tuesday. The walk-in event runs until 5 p.m.

All the dogs are fully vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and come with a microchip. Lollypop is also waiving its adoption fees for this event to encourage people to give these wonderful animals a forever home.

“We are continuing to see that dogs are not getting adopted as quickly as in the past,” said Adrienne McHargue, vice president and COO of Lollypop Farm. “According to Shelter Animals Counts - The National Database, animal shelters nationwide are seeing more dogs being brought to their shelters than are being adopted. Despite our shelter care team’s best efforts, longer stays in a shelter environment can lead to behavioral challenges and even illness. It is critical we find loving homes for these pets.”

Potential adopters can set up individual meet-and-greets with a shelter dog, and if needed, bring in their current pet to meet their potential new friend at another scheduled time.

The shelter says dogs on the Lollypop website represent only a percentage of those it is currently caring for.
