More funding is coming to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office to help reduce crime in our neighborhoods.

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello signed the $8.5 million into law, which will be a part of the new anti-violence initiative.

It will allow the sheriff’s office to add 11 deputies to support and back up the Rochester Police Department and to keep MCSO zones fully staffed.

The two departments will work hand-in-hand to support the city of Rochester on violence felony investigation.

The plan also includes providing critical assistance to families affected by violence, jail services aimed at breaking the cycle of violence and direct engagement with violence offenders to reduce repeat offenses.

Right now, the city is on track for another grim record-setting year in homicides with 33 to date. Arrests have been made in over 50% of those cases, according to authorities.
