The rising waters on Lake Ontario reached an all-time-high, exceeding levels reached in 2017 when historic flooding caused millions of dollars in damages to homes and businesses all along the shoreline.
The higher lake levels are concern to boaters, too, as they’re dealing with restricted wake areas and other complications.
High waters are flooding marinas and impacting others' plans.
Longtime boater Rob Reimer of Greece said that while he still enjoyed his time on the water, he had to minimize travel and stay put at the dock.
“Going down the river today—we could see so many docks completely underwater,” Reimer said. “Then as you are going down, you have to go slow because you see stuff floating in the water and you kind of have to go around it.”
Regardless of rising water levels, and the 5-mile-per-hour speed limit on the river as part of Monroe County's state of emergency, and the state-wide restrictions put in place by the governor, boat activity at the Port of Rochester appeared to be busy Sunday.
