Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo has issued a state of emergency because of high water levels in our area.

That means a speed limit of five mph for boats within 500 feet of the shoreline along Lake Ontario, Irondequoit Bay, Braddocks Bay, and on the Genesee River.

The state of emergency created a "no wake zone" to help minimize any damage to shoreline properties.

Several towns around the county have been preparing for the high waters with sandbags and aquadams.

Residents with requests or concerns should contact their local town leaders who are coordinating all the efforts through the Office of Emergency Management.
