The man charged in connection to his girlfriend and her young son's death has been indicted on murder charges.
A Wayne County grand jury indicted Alberto Reyes, 26, on two counts of murder in the second-degree, and one count of tampering with physical evidence.
He's accused of murdering his then-girlfriend Selena Hidalgo-Calderon and her 14-month-old son Owen.
Selena's body was found on a Sodus farm in May. Remains believed to belong to Owen were eventually found about a half-mile from her body.
Police say Reyes admitted to moving Selena’s body, but did not admit to killing her. Until this indictment, he was not charged in connection with Owen’s death.
The motive in both cases remains unclear.
"I'm sorry that we can't answer your questions, but again, we're not going to try this in the lens of your camera. We're going to let the district attorney's office present this case to a court," said Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts.
In a statement, Selena's mother, Estela Calderon said:
"For months I have been waiting for the day when he will finally be charged with murder. I want justice for my family. Nothing will give me back my daughter Selena and my grandson Owen, but I want this man to pay for what he has done so he will never hurt anyone again."
Sheriff Virts says it's been a long year as his department has handled two major murder investigations.
"They're running on empty but they're professionals. They're working hard and they will continue to work hard. Hopefully we'll get a breather over the holiday season and hopefully we won't have these tragedies in 19," Virts continued.
Reyes is being held in Wayne County Jail without bail. He's due back in court January 15.
