Rochester native and La Lumiere senior Isaiah Stewart has earned the prestigious Naismith Award as National High School Boys Basketball Player of the Year.

Stewart, a former McQuaid standout, is averaging 18.1 points and 11.3 rebounds per game for the Lions, who are ranked No. 1 in the nation, according to USA Today.

By winning the award, Stewart joins some elite basketball company. Past winners include LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Ben Simmons, Kevin Love, Alonzo Mourning, Chris Webber, Dwight Howard, Shane Battier, Lonzo Ball and many more.

Stewart verbally committed to the University of Washington next year, where he'll join another Rochester native, former Bishop Kearney star Nahziah Carter.

Stewart and La Lumiere will play in the National Championship Tournament starting April 4.

Last July, Stewart led team USA to a gold medal in the FIBA U-17 in Argentina with a game-high 15 points. Another Rochester connection — Fairport head coach Scott Fitch was an assistant coach for that gold-medal winning team, and formed a strong friendship with Stewart along the way.

According to ESPN's Top 100 recruiting database, Stewart is the fifth best prospect of this year's class.

Stewart was also named as a member for the McDonald's All-American Game which features the top basketball players in the country.
