What You Need To Know

  • Absentee ballots for school budgets and board members are due by mail June 9

  • These elections will be done entirely by absentee ballot due to COVID-19 concerns

  • Elections inspectors will oversee the count, beginning at 5:01 on election day

Due to COVID-19, this year’s school budget vote and board of education election will be conducted entirely by absentee ballot. Eligible voters in each district should have received a ballot in the mail with instructions. Residents are asked to return their ballot using the prepaid envelope.

"It is definitely a different year for school districts as everything is different for everyone right now," Spencerport Superintendent of Schools Dan Milgate said.

Milgate says election inspectors will oversee the June 9 ballot count.

"Yes, we get to start at 5:01 p.m. on the 9th of June, vote day. We really do not have final guidance, but I think everyone is hoping to finish that night but it depends how many ballots we get and making sure that we are careful with it. We do not want to rush it. We want to make sure it is a thourough process."

"I am actually encouraging by the fact that numbers are already up with the ballots. In that sense it is good news because more people are doing their duty and civic responsibility of voting and we are getting that so we are excited about that."

Governor Cuomo has spoken about school aid decreasing as much as 20 percent. Districts do not yet know the extent of reductions or how the potential reductions will be allocated.

Again, all absentee ballots must be received by June 9.
