It was all hands on deck Tuesday afternoon at Roberts Wesleyan University.
Students took part in an interactive training simulation, giving them a chance to see what working in a real emergency room feels like.
The simulation brought together students in nursing, criminal justice and social work majors.
Students say exercises like this give them the opportunity for collaboration just like they’d experience in the real world.
Students worked through different medical scenarios — treating everything from a gunshot wound to burns to managing car crash victims.
Actors role played as emergency room patients, complete with fake injuries for students to practice on.
Senior Kyler Langhorn shares how this training will help once she graduates.
“All of these departments are going to be involved once we are nurses," Langhorn said. "Just getting the hands-on experience now in a situation that we can kind of debrief and talk about what has happened after it gives us a better learning experience."
Nursing faculty at Roberts Wesleyan say interprofessional collaboration is a trend in health care with research showing it leads to improved student learning and better patient experiences.
