A Wayne County motorsports store is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrests and convictions of the individuals the business says are responsible for a smash-and-grab burglary on Monday.
The Macedon Police Department and Wayne County Sheriff's Office were at Filer's Powersports on Route 31 in Macedon on Tuesday to investigate the incident.
Pictures of the damage show an overhead door on the side of the building was smashed in. Filer's says the thieves made off with $70,000 in dirtbikes. The business provided pictures and vehicle identification numbers on its Facebook page for the eight motorcycles it says were stolen.
Filer's is just the latest business to fall victim to a rash of smash-and-grab burglaries in the Rochester area. According to police, the thieves have also struck at convenience stores, gas stations, a smoke shop, The Record Archive, Comedy at the Carlson and more. Some of these business owners have expressed frustration over the significant impact they say it has had on them.
In most of these incidents, police say the thieves used a stolen car as a battering ram to gain access to the business and then take what they wanted. Spectrum News 1 spoke with a Rochester DoorDash driver who says her car was stolen and used in several burglaries, leaving her without a vehicle to use for work.
According to investigators, many of the stolen cars used in these crimes are Hyundai and Kia vehicles, which have been targeted because of a vulnerability widely shared on social media.
Police have tracked down some of the suspects involved in this rash of thefts, but are still looking for more.
