Tyquan Rivera, who was 14 years old when he shot Officer Anthony DiPonzio in the head on Dayton Street in Rochester, has 10 years later been released from prison.

Rivera, now 25, was released Tuesday. He was originally convicted for the attempted murder of DiPonzio, who was shot in the head in January 2009 while responding to a call.

Rivera was released in 2016 after serving two-thirds of a 10-year sentence, but was sent back to prison for violating his parole.

Rivera's parole violations included failing to meet curfew and changing his home address without telling his parole officer. Rivera was serving time at Cape Vincent Correctional Facility in Jefferson County.

Rivera claimed it wasn't him who pulled the trigger. In a court transcript from January 13, 2016, Rivera stated, "I was wanted for questioning, and basically they was pinning it on me."

DiPonzio underwent months of physical therapy to help him walk and move his arm again. He returned to work in 2011.
