ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Tyquan Rivera, who was convicted of shooting a Rochester police officer when he was only 14 years old, then released in July of 2016, is behind bars for violating his parole.
Rivera, now 23 years old, is held in the Erie County Correctional facility. The Department of Corrections website indicates he has been at that facility since January 11.
Rivera was paroled last summer after serving time for the Jan. 2009 shooting of Rochester Police Officer Anthony DiPonzio, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head while responding to a call on Dayton Street.
Rivera maintained he did not pull the trigger.
Rivera was convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to 3 1/3rd to 10 years in prison. His conditional release came after he served two-thirds of the maximum sentence.
Specific details have not yet been released about Rivera's parole violation. The end date of his parole is January 2019.
Anthony DiPonzio returned to desk duty for the RPD after three years of rehabilitation and still works for the department.
