A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday morning for the new police department in the city of Batavia.

The $15 million police station and headquarters is located at Alva and Bank Streets at City Centre.

The new facility is being financed by the United States Department of Agriculture. Former U.S. Rep. Christopher Jacobs and Sen. Chuck Schumer helped secure a $2.5 million grant for the project.

The 20,000-square-foot facility will replace the current station located in the Brisbane Mansion, which was built in 1855.
