PARMA, N.Y. — A dog park is coming to the town of Parma. “Bark Park” will allow dogs of all sizes to run off-leash safely for a little exercise and playtime. It'll be located on the southside of Parma Town Park.

The new dog park will fenced-in and have plenty of shade.

What You Need To Know

  • Hilton Parma Parks and Recreation received a $50,000 state grant to build an outdoor dog park

  • Bark Park will be located at Parma Town Park

  • The project will include fencing, drainage and excavation work

“This area here where we are is kind of this beautiful, untouched landscape that frankly a lot of people come to actually walk and walk their dogs,” said Tom Venniro, director of Hilton Parma Parks and Recreation. “If you look around you are going to see these beautiful willows and there will be areas for your small dogs and large dogs and what we are looking to do is incorporate the pavilion here, so even for the owners, we want to have some shade.”

State Assemblyman Josh Jensen helped secure a $50,000 state grant for the dog park that will include fencing, drainage and some excavating.

“Anything I can do to help support quality of life through recreation, I said let me see what’s the best way to help,” said Jensen. “You are out there and can meet new people and may make new friends. Maybe it is someone living on your street or your kids may be in the same class or school. It’s a way to build community."

The new Parma dog park is expected to open next summer. Friends of Hilton Parma Parks and Rec and some other community groups are already planning some fundraisers to help build and install some extras at the park like bench seating.
