1. Texas AG Ken Paxton launches Senate campaign against Sen. John Cornyn

Amid legal battles and a recent court ruling against him, Ken Paxton has set his sights on the U.S. Senate, taking on fellow Republican incumbent Sen. John Cornyn.

Paxton's entry into the race brings fresh controversy and competition to Texas politics. No Democrat has yet entered the Senate race in Texas.

2. Students' immigration status remains in limbo at multiple Texas universities

Texas universities are facing a sudden crisis as they have seen their international students unexpectedly have their visas terminated on the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) database.

Institutions like Texas A&M, University of North Texas and others are actively offering support and guidance to those affected amid growing concerns over their future in the U.S.

3. Texas measles outbreak leads to third MMR dose recommendation for West Texas infants

Texas faces over 500 measles cases, including two child fatalities, prompting updated vaccine recommendations.

The updated three-dose series applies only to infants in and traveling through the outbreak area starting at 6 months, with follow-up doses at 12-15 months and 4-6 years. 

4. Truck driver didn’t stop for traffic in deadly 18-vehicle North Austin crash, NTSB report finds

A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board found that the truck driver involved in the 18-vehicle crash in North Austin last month that killed five people failed to come to a stop during a traffic slowdown caused by construction and lane closures.

5. Trump targets Texas law firm with new executive order

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday targeting a Texas law firm that has represented clients in multi-billion dollar defamation suits against conservative media outlets surrounding claims the 2020 election was “stolen.”

Houston-based Susman Godfrey LLP represented Dominion Voting Systems in lawsuits against Fox News, Newsmax and Mike Lindell—the founder of MyPillow—after they made false claims that the company’s voting machines helped rig the 2020 election.

6. Guy Fieri teams up with Texas-based sparkling water brand to launch limited edition summer flavors

Celebrity chef and Mayor of Flavortown Guy Fieri is teaming up with Austin-based Waterloo Sparkling Water to release three limited edition summer flavors.

Flavors include: Lemon Italian Ice, Huckleberry Cobbler and Spiced Mango Sorbet.

After days of economic turmoil and global frustration with his tariff policies, President Donald Trump announced Wednesday afternoon a 90-day pause on many of the import taxes he placed on most countries in the world, with the exception of China.
