A Thursday night shooting in Newburgh killed a 29-year-old man and injured a child.
Newburgh police said officers responded to a Shotspotter activation on the 100 block of Washington Street just after 7 p.m., finding a 5-year-old boy and a 29-year-old man with gunshot wounds. The 29-year-old was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Hospital; the 5-year-old was airlifted to Westchester County Medical Center with what police said were non-life-threatening injuries.
