Middletown, N.Y. — Authorities in Wallkill and Middletown are teaming up to find the suspects responsible for vandalizing two communities.
According to Middletown Mayor Joseph DeStefano, these crimes are causing concerns for residents and business owners in the areas.
“We’ve had over 20 incidents throughout the city now," DeStefano said. "We’re up to 20. One thing I’d like to encourage people [to do] going forward, is if they see graffiti or if they’re a victim of it, they need to report it.”
DeStefano warns surveillance cameras are active throughout the city's limits and he has no tolerance for vandalism.
“They need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent," DeStefano said. "The judge needs to send a message that this type of activity, this type of crime will not be tolerated because it’s a crime against the 30,000 plus people that live in Middletown and the 30,000 plus people that live in Wallkill.”
The graffiti signs say “Get Money Cru or B.R.” along Dolson Avenue, the Schutt Road corridor and along East Main Street towards Wallkill. However, if you see something, Mayor DeStefano is encouraging you to say something.
“We have already begun removing it from some of the municipal property that it was on,” DeStefano said. “We’ve made an offer to some of the private owners of the property to assist them with removing the graffiti also.”
