Two people are dead after police say a driver fled a traffic stop and crashed into another vehicle.

Police say on Friday night just before 10:30, they pulled over a Jeep Wrangler that was driving erratically. However as officers approached the vehicle, they say the driver drove off west onto State Route 52 and shortly later hit another vehicle head on.

The driver of the Jeep, identified as 52-year-old Joann Schields, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the other vehicle, identified as 35-year-old Elizabeth Bello, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers, ages 6 and 16, were sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The New York State Police are assisting the New York State Attorney General’s Office with this investigation.
