DAYTON — Next month in Dayton, the focus turns to community as the "Block by Block" Neighborhood Conference returns.

Last year's conference was canceled because of power outages and severe weather. Its goal is to bring residents together to collaborate on creating stronger, safer and more beautiful neighborhoods.

Put on by the City of Dayton Dept. of Planning, Neighborhoods & Development, Division of Community Engagement, this year the conference will begin on Saturday, April 5 at Westwood Elementary School, 2805 Oakridge Dr., Dayton, from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Admission is free and breakfast and lunch will be provided. 

There will also be workshops and breakout sessions focusing on:

  • "Grant/Proposal Writing 101
  • Housing in Dayton: Affordability and Availability 
  • Know Your Resources: Reporting, Tracking and Transparency Tools for Residents 
  • Engaging Your Neighbors 
  • Small Business Certification: Working with the City of Dayton 
  • Power Savings: Energy Programs to Lower Your Bills 
  • Neighborhood Safety"

Residents will hear from Victory Project Founder/CEO Monnie Bush, who is the keynote speaker. Bush will highlight how the organization continues to affect the lives of Dayton-youth and those in the area.
