The man responsible for the gruesome death of Utica teenager Bianca Devins has been sentenced to 25 years-to-life in prison.
Brandon Clark, a Cicero native, appeared in court to be sentenced Tuesday morning after pleading guilty to second-degree murder more than a year ago.
Devins' family was present for the sentencing, speaking beforehand.
Clark also addressed the court and Devins' family saying, "I hate myself for what I did to her. I don't understand how I could do something like that."
Clark expressed regret for the pain his actions caused the family of Bianca Devins saying, "I hate myself for what I did. I'm so sorry I put everyone through this. I'm so sorry that I put Bianca through this."
Devins was 17 years old when she killed on July 14, 2019, the day of the 2019 Utica Boilermaker Road Race. Clark posted graphic videos and photos of the scene onto his personal social media platforms.
Clark pleaded guilty last February and waived his right to appeal, then attempted to withdraw his plea. The judge denied that request. Tuesday's sentencing came after months of delays.
It's the end of a chapter, but not the end of the pain for Devins' family.
They say people still share pictures of Devins' lifeless body on the internet.
"We are more cautious, and sometimes very apprehensive about going out in public. We're all very guarded of all of the young children in the family," said Frank Williams, Bianca's grandfather.
William says the family is prepared to keep fighting to keep Clark in prison, and are focusing on Bianca.
"Our deepest thoughts now are with Bianca, our angel, who has given so much love to this family, to her friends, and the legacy she's going to give to us forever," Williams said.
A scholarship fund has been set up in memory of Bianca Devins.
Devins' family is pushing for a piece of legislation called, "Bianca's Law," to change social media policies and force platforms to be held accountable for what they allow on their sites.
