Due to High Wind Warnings across Western New York, the Finger Lakes region and the North Country beginning Saturday afternoon, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that she has deployed emergency response assets from multiple state agencies to provide assistance and resources.

The governor says High Wind Warnings will be in effect for Allegany, Cattaraugus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Clinton, Erie, Franklin, Genesee, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Oswego, St. Lawrence, Wayne and Wyoming counties.

Peak wind gusts are expected to reach close to 70 mph in parts of Western New York, with Lakeshore Flood Warnings issued for Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

Hochul says state stockpiles are prepared to deploy assets to localities to support any storm-related needs, including pumps, chainsaws, sandbags, generators, cots, blankets and bottled water. Utility companies have also brought in 1,300 out-of-state personnel to help.

"Western New York, the Finger Lakes and North County regions should be prepared for extreme weather moving across the state later today, including strong winds and damaging floods," Hochul said in a statement "The state's Emergency Operations Center is monitoring the weather and our response agencies stand ready to assist county partners and utility crews as needed. Use this time now to secure items outside of your home from the wind and have the necessary supplies on hand in case of a power outage."

In portions of the Southern Tier and Capital Region, Hochul says residents can expect winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts nearing 50 mph.

Officials are warning of possible down trees and power lines, which may result in scattered power outages.

The governor says 46 generators with extended fuel capabilities for traffic signals affected by power outages have been deployed to supplement existing regional supplies in Central New York, the Finger Lakes and Western New York.

In the Finger Lakes, officials with Rochester Gas & Electric are warning residents to take precautions and prepare for potential power outages.

They also are advising all outdoor decorations or items be secured and brought inside to avoid being blown away.

RG&E says you can sign up for outage alerts ahead of the storm to stay up to date on outages and ask if you experience an outage to call them to report it.

In Erie County, tractor trailers and box trucks are temporarily banned on the Buffalo Skyway, from Interstate 190 to Ridge Road in the cities of Buffalo and Lackawanna. Hochul also says empty trucks, trailers and tandems are banned on the 190 between exit 42 (Geneva) and exit 61 (Ripley to PA line) and the Niagara Thruway (I-190).

The governor announced that the state Thruway Authority has 676 operators and supervisors prepared to respond to wind-related issues across the state with excavators, plow/dump trucks, large loaders, portable VMS boards, portable light towers, smaller generators, smaller pumps and equipment hauling trailers.
