A state appellate court overturned the 2017 first-degree manslaughter conviction of an Oneida County woman found guilty of killing her ex-boyfriend's mother in 2015.

Kaitlyn Conley was convicted in a second trial and sentenced to 23 years in prison for poisoning Mary Yoder, who was also her boss. Her first trial ended in a hung jury.

In its ruling Friday, the court granted Conley's appeal on the grounds of ineffective assistance of counsel.

Though the verdict was overturned, prosecutors could put her on trial for a third time.
