A last-minute decision means Onondaga County legislators will have to wait to vote on additional funding for the Inner Harbor Aquarium.
According to the Republican caucus, they were working up until meeting time on a resolution they say would move the project forward and keep the amount the county pays firmly at $85 million. New estimates says it will cost $100 million.
The original resolution had county lawmakers voting on a proposal that would set aside $11 million more for the tourist attraction. It comes as the county is trying to raise private funds as it says the cost of the project is going up due to inflation.
"Honestly, we just ran out of time to have enough education, enough details to the legisaltors themselves. We just weren't in a good space to move forward today," Onondaga County Legislature Chairman Tim Burtis said.
The aquarium was proposed in late 2021.
