Central New York is remembering the law enforcement officers who were killed while on duty over the weekend.

A gathering took place Wednesday in honor of fallen Syracuse police officer Michael Jensen, 29, at Kitty Hoyne's Irish Pub in Syracuse.

This as a candlelight vigil was held to remember Onondaga County Sheriff's Lieutenant Michael Hoosock, 37, of Clay.

The vigil was held in St. Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse, where Hoosock and his family attended together for years. The gathering was part of an outpouring of love and support for the two men who were shot Sunday night outside a home in Salina while responding to a call for a suspicious vehicle.

Hoosock's St. Rose family were at the ceremony to remember him and the impact he had on their lives.

"Hootch," as he was known to many, was described as someone who was devoted to his family, faith and keeping this community safe.

“I'll remember Mike as a good man, just as a good man," said Pastor Christopher Celentano of St. Rose of Lima Church. "Like a father, a husband, a son, a Catholic, like his commitment to the community, like service. In all honesty, I mean, he's an incredible guy.”

Jensen, formerly of Rome, was a skilled club hockey player at LeMoyne. Some of his former teammates and friends were gathering to honor him.
