Justin Velazquez joined the Spectrum News 1 team as a multimedia journalist in November 2022. 

Justin was born and raised in New York City and is thrilled to be back in his home state. Justin graduated from the Dan Patrick School of Sportscasting at Full Sail University in Winter Park Florida.

Justin is well traveled, he’s lived in North Carolina, Tennessee and Minnesota in addition to New York and Florida.

Justin loves to meet new people and is inspired by learning their stories. Of the various stories he's told, his favorite is one of a store manager who overcame an abusive relationship and drug addiction to get where she is now. Her story reminds Justin that despite how hard times get, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.

Justin is a huge sports fan. However, he probably didn't pick the best group of teams. He roots for the Mets, Jets, Knicks and Rangers. When he's not in the field you can find him cheering on one of his favorite teams, spending time with friends and family, or cooking up a dish in the kitchen.
