After more than six weeks without much public information released, a man has been indicted in the killing of his wife in Rome back in July.

Jason D’Avolio has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife Kerrilee D’Avolio. Her body was found the next day in an Oneida County landfill in the town of Ava.

Jason D’Avolio was originally brought into police custody as a suspect in the case. When authorities originally met with him, they said he told them he discovered his wife dead from a gunshot wound in a bedroom inside their home.

D’Avolio admitted to wrapping her body in a bed sheet before disposing it in a dumpster in Rome, according to authorities.

However, the indictment alleges she was shot in the back of the head before being left in a dumpster.

The journey to the landfill caused a lot of damage to the body, complicating the autopsy.

Investigators believe marital difficulties may have played a role in the crime.

"It seems as though they were, the relationship was coming to an end, and he wasn't happy about that," said Rome Police Detective Sharon Rood.

In addition to second-degree murder, D'Avolio is also charged with concealing a corpse
