Court papers have revealed new information in the investigation of a Rome woman’s death.

The body of Kerrilee D'Avolio, 32, was found Tuesday at the Oneida County Landfill in the town of Ava. She had been reported missing Monday morning.

Her body was been removed and the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office will perform the autopsy.

Jason D’Avolio, Kerrilee’s husband, was brought into police custody on Monday as a suspect in the case.

According to court documents, D’Avolio said he discovered his wife deceased from a gunshot wound in a bedroom inside their home. D’Avolio admitted to wrapping her body in a bed sheet before disposing it in a dumpster in Rome.

He said it was an attempt to conceal her body from police officials and other authorities. D’Avolio is facing a concealment of a human corpse charge after appearing in Rome City Court Tuesday afternoon, and could face more charges following autopsy results.

He also admitted to disposing the rifle that was used in the Barge Canal. Police say the rifle was recovered by members of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team on Tuesday morning.

Authorities said Monday that initial information led investigators first to search local dumpsters, then search the Western Oneida County waste disposal transfer station in Rome and ultimately to the Oneida County Landfill where the body was located. Kerrilee D'Avolio worked at the Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency as a Classroom Aid. The Executive Director said staff are trying to support each other and the family of D'Avolio.
