UTICA, N.Y. -- Utica's mayor is frustrated with owners of an apartment building that he says continues to deteriorate.

Mayor Robert Palmieri wants repairs made to the Olbiston Apartments building on Genesee Street, as soon as possible. It's more than 100-years-old, with up to that many people living inside.

Since 2017, the city has been trying to get the owners to fix the stairs, roof, and other codes violations, but that hasn't happened.

Earlier this week, leaders learned power was cut off to parts of the building. Mayor Palmieri said the Supreme Court previously ruled the roof had to be fixed by November, but he wants to expedite the court process against the owners.

"If I wouldn't live there, it's not good for anybody else to live there and I would love to see a Supreme Court Judge say, 'Ok until that's repaired, you live there' and let them understand what it's all about," Palmieri said.

Spectrum News called the Olbiston Apartments office and the person who answered said they have no comment.

The mayor said there are efforts underway to present other housing options to residents
