February is not leaving quietly. A winter storm will bring widespread accumulating snow to the Capital Region and Hudson Valley through much of Tuesday.
Winter Storm Warnings and Winter Weather Advisories are already in place for eastern New York through Tuesday evening.
This storm delivers heavy snow falling about an inch an hour in the overnight and into mid-morning Tuesday before tapering through the afternoon.
Temperatures Tuesday afternoon are expected to climb above freezing, which will help improve road conditions. Expect the evening commute to be better than that of the messy morning one.
The system will only be in the area for about a day before moving out and giving us mostly cloudy skies by Wednesday with another chance for rain Wednesday night and Thursday.
Higher elevations stand the best chance at seeing at least 6 inches of snow.
Those of us in the lower elevations of the Hudson River Valley can expect snowfall totals to be closer to the 3 to 6 inches range.
