Color has come a long way across the Adirondacks in the past week.

What You Need To Know

  • Some areas in the Adirondacks are at peak now

  • Saturday and Sunday look great for leaf peeping

  • Cooler than normal temperatures ahead will help our leaves change over

In last week's edition of the fall foliage report, we were discussing winter in the Adirondacks!

Between the end of September and the first five days of October, it's been all about the fall colors instead of snow mixing in. We've definitely had some cold, cold mornings in the Adirondacks but no snow like we saw at the end of last month during this timeframe.

Multiple nights dropping into the 30s and even 20s in the Adirondacks have expedited the changeover to pretty fall colors for more regions throughout the state.

There is some work to be done, though. The mountains are the only area approaching or at peak right now.

Colder-than-average temperatures this past week really got color change going across the mountains. Fall color is becoming more noticeable across the rest of the state, as well, and will continue with chillier days and nights ahead.

Recent overnight lows in the 30s and 40s in western New York have helped speed up the changeover process for places like Niagara Falls.

Leaves have been rapidly changing in central New York, too. Peak is not too far off.

We will see varying color this week across the rest of the state, but it will definitely be more noticeable than last week.

The long-range outlook into next week is calling for more cool air. This could lead to another week of rapid leaf change.

We’d love to see your fall foliage pictures from across the state. You can share them by using the Spectrum News app.
