Most of the Adirondacks are seeing color change, with even some lower elevations seeing splashes of color.

What You Need To Know

  • Most areas will see under 20% color change this weekend

  • Chilly nights heading into the weekend will have more leaves changing

  • Saturday will be the better day weather-wise to take in some early foliage

After a little warmup last week with a couple of pictures, we’ve got our first actual foliage report to share this week. Below is “ILOVENY’s” first foliage map of the season detailing conditions according to volunteer leaf peepers across the state.

While there was no formal report last week, I’d received some photos from friends in the Adirondacks showing the slight changes taking place. Most areas will see less than 20% change this weekend. However, low temperatures in the 30s the next three nights across the Adirondacks should kick-start the color change.

While a lot of Upstate N.Y. is still very green, you’ll likely see a touch of fall this weekend whether you’re in western, central or southern N.Y.

This is the last weekend of summer and it’ll sure feel like it. If you were thinking of a hike, paddle or anything outside, Saturday will be the better day, especially across the Adirondacks. Rain chances will be higher Sunday across Northern N.Y. and lower across Southern N.Y.

This foliage blog will become much more in-depth and rich with pictures as the season progresses.

We’d love to see your fall foliage pictures from across the state. You can share them by using the Spectrum News App.
