Colder, drier weather has helped crews construct Lake George's ice castles over the past couple of weeks.
Lake George is one of five locations in the U.S. the company Ice Castles has built ice palaces this winter.
Twelve thousand icicles are grown daily for construction.
The castles take two months to build and weigh over 20 million pounds.
As you might imagine, warm temperatures and rain are not conducive to building these winter attractions.
After the 6th warmest December on record, January has been colder than average and recently snowy. This has not been a welcomed change for most, but for the architects of Lake George's newest winter carnival attraction, it has been extremely beneficial.
The attraction includes huge structures, thrones, tunnels and slides all made of ice. In addition, this is lit up at night by thousands of color-changing LED lights.
With it being a winter attraction, after all, this will rarely close due to extreme cold or snowy weather. The forecast for this weekend is cold, but Sunday will be warmer for the grand opening.
The Ice Castles attraction is located at Charles R. Wood Park and is open six days a week. You can purchase tickets here!
