Parts of the Adirondacks are at peak foliage.

What You Need To Know

  • The Adirondacks are at near peak to peak color

  • Saturday will be the better day weather-wise for leaf peeping

  • Leaf change should pick up heading into October

Chilly temperatures the past several nights have made for a nice color pop across the Adirondacks. Everyone outside of NYC and Long Island is now seeing at least 15 to 20 percent color change.

The best chance to see peak color this weekend will be around Lake Placid, Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake. If you're planning on a scenic hike this weekend, be sure to have the rain gear. More on this weekend's weather below.

The southern Adirondacks are seeing some great color right now, as well. Places like Long Lake, Old Forge, Inlet and Lake Pleasant will be near peak this weekend. The northern part of Lake George is looking a little more fall-like.

While color isn't as vibrant in the Saratoga/Capital Region, leaves are showing more color than they did last week.

Warmer-than-average temperatures have made for slow color change in the Catskills, but some spots in the western part of the range will be close to the midpoint this weekend.

Color is beginning to pop across parts of CNY as well. Many spots will see 30 to 40 percent color change this weekend.

This weekend's forecast isn't as nice as the past few, especially up in the Adirondacks. If you're thinking about heading up there, you may be better served with a scenic drive rather than a hike, walk or paddle.

The best time to be outside this weekend across the Adirondacks will be Saturday morning before showers head in for the afternoon. Outside of there, conditions look to be dry for the rest of NYS.

Sunday looks to be a cloudy, cool, damp day across much of the state.

As always, the best part of this blog is the pictures we receive to update conditions from around the state, so please share any and all photos from around NYS!
