People are digging out all across the Capital Region, and in Troy, where there’s a snow emergency, many people who dug out yesterday are digging out again to move their cars to the alternate side of the road Friday night.
"I came out this morning and it was just so cold — I had frostbite — so I had to go in and warm up and then come back out," said Mary Ann Chapman.
What You Need To Know
- Several cities have declared snow emergencies across the Capital Region, including the city of Troy
- Residents on the even side of the street must move their cars to the odd side of the road by 8 p.m.
- Many people were digging out for the second time on Friday after more than a foot of snow fell in the area
Chapman says she usually has help, but this time around, she’s on her own to dig out.
"My son Ty, he normally — if he was around — I know he would come do it for me, and my other son, he wasn’t able to come because they’ve got their daughters in school, so I said, 'Well, I gotta do it,' " Chapman said.
Chapman says she was out for two hours Friday morning before the first time she took a break, and had been out again for nearly two hours when Spectrum News caught up with her. She has a heart condition and her young granddaughter kept coming out to check on her. She doesn’t remember the last time she’s dug out from a storm this big.
"No … no! I said, ‘This is the worst,’" Chapman said. "With my health issues, I just know I just gotta take my time and everything."
Down the street, Sheila Perkins and her family were digging out — again.
"We shoveled all the cars on the right side of the street, to move them to the left … and now we to have to shovel ‘em all up — we did about four cars yesterday," Perkins said.
She says day two of cleanup is a little trickier. She’s sore and shoveling is tougher.
"Lifting the heavy snow up ... because it’s more solid — it’s got all the salt and stuff in it," Perkins said.
And while she’s hoping there isn’t another storm like this any time again soon …
"Nah, I’ve seen bigger!" Perkins said.
