The brief, powerful thunderstorm that made its way through the Capital Region on Wednesday afternoon brought down trees and slowed traffic on some area highways.

A quiet day turned into quite the mess for Kate Bishop and her neighbors on Maple Avenue in Troy. A tree toppled on her yard and landed on wires, and a parked truck and trailer.

"These trees have been here over a hundred years and this is the most damage we've ever seen. We've been her 25 years," Bishop said.

City workers quickly arrived on scene and started to clear the debris from the road. The deputy fire chief said there were no reports of injuries.

A section of Maple Avenue was closed for several hours. Nearby on Campbell Avenue was also closed due to large branches blocking the road.

One tree came down along Route 787 southbound.

Residents say the storm rolled through around 2 p.m.

“When you got these great big old trees, it’s something we’ve worried about. I’m just glad they fell to the street side rather than to the house side because they could’ve done a lot of damage to the houses,” Bishop said.

Ethan Carmody wasn't as lucky as a tree landed on his company's truck and trailer. He says branches left a few holes on the roof of the trailer and is worried some of the tools may be damaged.

“We'll see what happens, but we're hopeful we'll get on the road again soon,” Carmody said, who was remodeling a home nearby.
