Relief pitcher and Latham native Tommy Kahnle is reportedly headed to the Detroit Tigers.
Multiple media reports, including MLB.com, indicate Kahnle will sign a one-year deal with Detroit, ending his second stint with the New York Yankees.
The right-hander, 35, pitched 42 2/3 innings out of the bullpen last season for the American League champion Yankees, with a 2.11 earned run average and a 1.148 WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched). Kahnle has pitched in the majors for 10 seasons with the Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox and Colorado Rockies.
Kahnle's 2024 season ended on a down note, as he took the loss in Game 5 of the World Series, which clinched L.A.'s Series win. Before that, he'd thrown seven shutout innings in the American League playoffs over a Division Series win over Kansas City and an ALCS win over Cleveland.
