Carmen Maciariello is out as Siena College men’s basketball coach after five seasons.

A source close to the process, who says they are not authorized to speak on the record, says the decision came directly from Siena President Chuck Seifert. The school confirmed the firing Wednesday afternoon.

Maciariello, a 2001 Siena graduate and Clifton Park native, went 68-72 over five seasons at the helm, but the Saints were just 4-28 and 3-17 in conference play this season. Siena lost its final eight games of the season, with Maciariello’s last win being a 68-63 decision at Manhattan in mid-February.

Maciariello’s first two seasons with Siena produced back-to-back regular season MAAC championships, with the Saints winning the MAAC tournament in 2020 before the NCAA tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He had received a three-year contract extension from the school in 2021 that would have taken him through the end of the 2025-26 season, according to the Siena website.
