UAlbany made a statement on the first play of the game Saturday afternoon against Central Connecticut State University.
Backed up on their own three-yard line, Todd Sibley gets the carry and turns it into a 97-yard touchdown run. The Pitt transfer had 190 rushing yards on Saturday.
Sophomore quarterback Joey Carino came in on quarterback design run plays near the goal line to score his first two touchdowns of the season. Those two touchdowns gave the Great Danes a 24-14 advantage at halftime.
In the third quarter, the UAlbany defense came alive. As CCSU approached the redzone, Elijah Hills strip sacks Shon Mitchell. Sophomore defensive lineman Joseph Greaney picks up the fumble and returns it 77-yards for a touchdown.
Joseph Greaney’s older brother Thomas Greaney caught a pair of touchdown passes from quarterback Reese Poffenbarger to seal the 45-26 win.
The Great Danes are on bye this next week. They will return to action on Oct. 8 at Monmouth.
