Rich Hurley has returned to the sideline to lead the Troy High School boys basketball program.

Hurley led Troy to five sectional finals from 2012-2016, winning two before departing the program in 2017 to spend more time with his family.

"We're active and busy and doing things," Hurley said of his family. "My wife is a school teacher and a former coach, and it was time to help out around the house, get away, and make sure things are good."

But the thought of teaching the game and life lessons brought him back.

"I just love teaching basketball, trying to give some knowledge to the kids, and then watching them execute, watch them take it all in, and watch them want to get better as young men," Hurley said.

His basketball IQ quickly caught the attention of his players.

"We're confident as a team to have him," senior Alex Wolfe said. "He's a great coach; he's a good guy. He does a lot for his players. [He] knows a lot more basketball than I've ever been coached."
