RPI is canceling both men's and women's hockey for this academic year, joining several schools in the conference.
School leaders say this was a difficult decision but necessary to keep students, faculty, and the surrounding community safe during this pandemic.
Coaches and athletic staff say its disappointing for them and frustrating for players, especially those seniors who may not get a chance to play again.
But they also say it something the program can overcome.
"We've got unbelievable staff that has helped up to create a lot of momentum that ended abruptly in March, and our guys have been working their tails off and we will find a way back to build on this past momentum. It will absolutely be a challenge," said coach Dave Smith.
ECAC hockey said just last week it does still plan to play, however, the Ivy League teams announced they would not be participating either.
