The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference has called off all fall sports for 2020.
The MAAC made the announcement Monday after a Council of Presidents meeting, citing “continuing health and safety concerns surrounding the global COVID-19 pandemic.” Sports affected include cross country, soccer, volleyball, and others.
The conference, which includes Siena College and Marist College, says it will explore the possibility of playing fall sports in the spring “at a later date.”
The decision doesn’t cover football, a sport in which the MAAC doesn’t compete. Marist, which plays football in the Pioneer Football League, said Monday in a statement that it hasn’t determined the status of what 2020 football games it has left – the school canceled its non-conference schedule – but a decision “is expected within the next few weeks,” the school said.
