A Saratoga Springs sanctuary is giving retired race horses a second career.
Therapeutic Horses of Saratoga has 26 horses that provide equine therapy. The nonprofit provides a safe space for mental wellness through interaction with the horses.
Multiple programs are available to help veterans, kids, couples, families and more. There is equine assisted therapy, horse play and military and veteran services.
“Sometimes folks come in as little hesitant because they’re pretty big animals, and the changes we see are people relaxing, feeling more confident about themselves and experiencing a really unique and healing bond with the horses,” said founder Erin Sisk.
Reservations are required for therapy sessions. The farm is also in need of volunteers and donations. Log on to www.thsaratoga.org for more information.
