Schenectady police say an 8-year-old boy is dead after he was hit by a car Wednesday night and the driver has been arrested.

Police say it happened between Crane Street and Chrisler Avenue around 7:30 last night.

When they arrived, the child was found unresponsive, and the driver of the car was gone. The child was rushed to Ellis Hospital, where he died. His name is not being released.

The car was found later in the Woodlawn area of Schenectady, and police arrested 29-year-old Conroy Simpson of Queens, who they say was the driver. Simpson faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death and operating a car without insurance.
